Many children, including Pedro, like bananas. One day while visiting at Grandma's house, Pedro was denied a banana because he complained about the one Grandma had given him. How hungry he felt as he watched Father and Antonio eating theirs. Pedro determined that he was going to be more grateful.
When someone stole some wood from their woodpile, it presented a good opportunity for Father to explain to Pedro and his brothers that God does not want us to harm those who do us wrong. He wants us to love them instead.
Pedro lay very still. Yes, there it was again. The bed was shaking. Now the rafters were beginning to creak.
"Mother!" Pedro cried. "I'm afraid."
Mother was soon at his side. "Remember that God is watching over you," Mother comforted him.
