Lois Ann is the oldest of the seven Owen children. Seven children is, in itself, enough to create a setting in which there is never a dull moment. Put with that some special problems Lois Ann has been battling with that keep resurfacing at the most inconvenient times, and summer turns out to be -- well, more than just an ordinary summer. Will she never conquer her problems and be different? At times she almost despairs.

Summer is filled with gardening, canning, freezing, remodeling projects inside and out, and special company. If only Mother would be well and able to manage things, but as it is, the heavy end often seems to fall on Lois Ann.

The seasons change. Fall brings a new school year, and winter brings new responsibilities. By the time Lois Ann's fifteenth year nears its end, she is on the way to finding some workable solutions to her problems -- thanks to the loving help of her parents and a greater understanding of how, by the grace of God, to live the victorious Christian life.
