God Wants All to Be Saved

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” —John 3:16
Read Revelation 22:1-17
Ike Miller was the terror of a North England mining district. Evangelistic services were being held, and many miners were listening to the Gospel. Ike Miller had said he would break up the meeting. One evening he came into the service and took a seat near the front. Henry Moorhouse, the young preacher, was preaching on the love of Christ.
The preacher and all his fellow workers were afraid Ike would create a disturbance. Unknown to them, a disturbance was created. It was in the depths of Ike’s soul. As he listened to the message of a Saviour’s love, his proud heart was broken. The light of the Gospel shone in.
When the meeting was over, Ike left for his home. Several older Christian surrounded the young evangelist and told him he had missed a great opportunity. They thought that a warning of judgement should have been sounded, not a winsome message of love. “What does he care about the love of Christ?” they asked.
“I’m really sorry I did not preach to him correctly,” said young Moorhouse. “I did so much want to help him.”
Little did those well-meaning men know of the power of the Gospel.
Ike Miller reached his home, where he had ofttimes been a terror.
“Home so early?” his wife cried, as he entered. She came forward to meet him, hoping to shelter their children, who had fled into a corner. Then to her astonishment, she saw he was not drunk but perfectly sober. Even more astonishing, he put his arms around her and kissed her.
“Lass,” Ike said, “God has brought your husband back to you.” Taking up his children, he said, “My little boy and girl, God has brought your father back to you. Now let us all pray.”
The Apostle Paul writes about “God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3, 4). Jesus said that there is joy among the angels when a sinner repents and comes to God.
God is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). As the daily reading indicates, whosoever will may find salvation in Christ.
